As a member of the nationally recognized Teen Challenge program, Gateway Boys Academy serves teenage boys ages 12 to 17 who have made rebellious choices in life. Our campus is located in the panhandle of Florida, and our facility is accessible from Chino, California and cities around the nation. While the program is very disciplined and structured, we focus on demonstrating the love of God to each and every cadet, surrounding him with compassionate care. Our Military School Paves the Way for Transformation
Boys begin with a focus on responsibility and attitude adjustment under the supervision of drill instructors. For the first few months, physical exercise, a packed schedule, attention to orderliness and chores provide them with structure and establish order in their lives. They begin to stop struggling against authority and begin to grow in confidence by mastering challenges that are constructive as opposed to their previously destructive activities. Over time, they promote to higher levels, gaining privileges and responsibilities in the process. The senior level military school cadet is permitted to participate in off-campus sports, outreaches, and travel.
Teaching the Importance of Academic Success
Our school operates all year round as students work at their own speed through first-rate curriculum and certified teachers. Most teens who have been failing or falling behind not only get caught up academically, but they often pull ahead. We meet all requirements by the State of Florida for high school graduation, and students earn diplomas when they graduate our academic program. Our high standards allow credits to transfer to public institutions or to go on to college or the military.
A New Spiritual Relationship, Direction, and Purpose
We emphasize spiritual life at Gateway Boys Academy. Our staff model their relationship with God, and we strive to maintain a Godly atmosphere encouraging to Christian growth. Young men attend group sessions, and meet with a counselor for individually assigned sessions intended to build character.
A Concentration on Family Restoration
At Gateway, we focus on family restoration. After four months, parents begin attending weekend conferences to learn about boundaries, strong marriages, and constructive parenting.

Chinos rich agricultural history dates back to the Spanish land grant forming Rancho Santa Ana del Chino. The area specialized in orchard, row crops and dairy. Downtown Chino is home to satellite branches of the San Bernardino County Library and Chaffey Community College, the Chino Community Theatre, the Chino Boxing Club and a weekly Farmer’s Market. In 2008 the City of Chino was awarded the prestigious “100 Best Communities for Youth” award for the second time in three years. Chino hosted shooting events for the 1984 Summer Olympics at the Prado Olympic Shooting Park in the Prado Regional Park. Two California state prisons for adults (California Institution for Men and California Institution for Women), as well as the Heman G. Stark Youth Correctional Facility, lie within the city limits. The land grant on which the town was founded was called Rancho Santa Ana del Chino. Santa Ana is Spanish for Saint Anne, but the exact meaning of “Chino” has been explained in different ways. One explanation is that the “Chino,” (curly-haired person or mixed-race person) was the chief of the local Native American village. The president of the Chino Valley Historical Society, drawing on US Civil War-era letters, designates the “curl” referenced in the toponym as that at the top of the grama grass that abounded in the valley.
